Taiwan watches Vatican-China ties, says China violated deal on bishops May 22, 2024 12:08AM

TAIPEI (Reuters) - Taiwan is paying close attention to interactions between the Vatican and China, the island's foreign ministry said on Wednesday, adding that China has "repeatedly violated" a 2018 agreement on the appointment of bishops.

Hedge funds buy Chinese stocks for fourth consecutive week May 21, 2024 11:55PM

HONG KONG (Reuters) - Global hedge funds added to their holdings of Chinese equities for a fourth straight week, joining hordes of investors trying to get ahead of a rebound in the market.

The beaten-down stocks in the world's second-largest economy have been rallying since February as Beijing ramped up measures to address economic challenges and as macro data showed signs of recovery.

Japan complains about Chinese ambassador's comment relating to Taiwan May 21, 2024 11:31PM

TOKYO (Reuters) - Japan has lodged a protest against the Chinese ambassador's "extremely inappropriate" comments relating to Taiwan, chief cabinet secretary Yoshimasa Hayashi said on Wednesday.

Wu Jianghao, the Chinese ambassador in Tokyo, said on Monday Japanese people would be dragged into the fire if they took part in forces plotting to support Taiwan's independence and "split China", according to Japanese media reports.

China, Japan to discuss resuming ruling party talks after 6-year hiatus, NHK reports May 21, 2024 10:55PM

TOKYO (Reuters) - A senior Chinese Communist Party official plans to visit Tokyo this month to meet with leaders from Japan's ruling parties and discuss resuming regular talks between the parties for the first time since 2018, Japanese broadcaster NHK reported on Wednesday.
