RIO DE JANEIRO (Reuters) - The chief executive of Brazilian state-run oil company Petrobras offered to step down on Tuesday, the company said, sending shares sliding as investors braced for the possibility of more political interference at the firm.
Chief Executive Jean Paul Prates asked the Petrobras board to meet and discuss an early end to his term, the company said in a late Tuesday filing.

RIO DE JANEIRO (Reuters) - Two Brazilian states have asked a court to more than double the amount that miners Vale and BHP, plus a jointly owned tie-up, must pay in damages for a 2015 deadly tailings dam failure, according to a legal document seen by Reuters on Tuesday.

(Reuters) - Australia's Iress Ltd said on Wednesday a stolen credential from its third-party user space was used to gain access to client data in the production environment of the financial services software platform OneVue over the weekend.
"It has now been discovered that a credential within Iress' GitHub user space was stolen and used to gain access to Iress' OneVue production environment," the financial software firm said in an exchange filing.

TOKYO (Reuters) - Oil prices rose in early trade on Wednesday as large wildfires were threatening Canada's oil sands and as the market expected U.S. crude oil and gasoline inventories to show a drawdown later in the day.
Brent crude futures were up 34 cents, or 0.4% at $82.71 a barrel. U.S. West Texas Intermediate crude futures (WTI) rose 38 cents, or 0.5%, to $78.39 a barrel by 0016 GMT.

(Reuters) - Inflation is still too high, and the U.S. central bank has more work to do to bring it down, Kansas City Federal Reserve Bank President Jeffrey Schmid said on Tuesday, a signal that he supports keeping the Fed's policy rate steady for some time.
