SINGAPORE (Reuters) - The euro fell on Monday as the French President Emmanuel Macron called a shock election after being trounced in the European Union vote by the far-right, while the dollar was steady ahead of the Federal Reserve meeting later in the week.

SINGAPORE (Reuters) - Oil prices nudged lower for a second straight session on Monday, weighed down by a firmer dollar as expectations of interest rate cuts were pushed out further following strong U.S. jobs data on Friday.
Brent crude futures and U.S. West Texas Intermediate crude futures slipped 4 cents to $79.58 and $75.49 a barrel, respectively, by 0036 GMT.

LISBON (Reuters) - Portugal's prime minister, whose rightist coalition won a general election in March, said on Sunday he would back former centre-left Socialist premier Antonio Costa if he decides to run for the European Council top job.
The Council, which represents national governments of the 27 member states, is one of the European Union's three main political institutions, along with the European Commission and the European Parliament.
