Australia's Star Entertainment gets potential deal offers May 19, 2024 07:33PM

(Reuters) - Australian casino operator Star Entertainment Group said on Monday it had received unsolicited and non-binding interest from several external parties regarding potential take-control transactions.

The Australian Financial Review had reported that a consortium led by U.S.-based Hard Rock Hotels and Casinos was considering taking control of Star with a proposal that would inject more capital into the company.

Schumer says US Senate will try again to pass border bill May 19, 2024 07:29PM

(Reuters) - U.S. Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer said on Sunday the Senate would once again try to pass a bipartisan border security bill this week after a previous attempt failed when enough Republicans withdrew their support at the urging of former President Donald Trump.

"I hope Republicans and Democrats can work together to pass the bipartisan Border Act this coming week," Schumer said in a letter to senators.

Asking prices for UK homes hit record high, Rightmove says May 19, 2024 07:04PM

LONDON (Reuters) - Prices of homes being put up for sale in Britain have hit record highs despite still expensive mortgage costs, but the pace of gains has slowed, according to data from property website Rightmove.

The average asking price for residential properties touched 375,131 pounds ($474,578.23) in the four weeks to mid-May, Rightmove said.

Japan and ASEAN plan joint strategy on auto production, Nikkei reports May 19, 2024 06:49PM

(Reuters) - Japan and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) plan to create their first joint strategy on automobile production and sales within the Southeast Asian bloc to counter China's increasing presence in the electric vehicle market, Nikkei newspaper reported on Monday.

New Taiwan president to take office facing angry China May 19, 2024 06:09PM

TAIPEI (Reuters) - Lai Ching-te takes office as Taiwan's new president on Monday facing an angry and deeply suspicious China which believes he is a "separatist", and a fractious parliament with an opposition chomping at the bit to challenge him.
