Russian attack in Ukraine's Sumy cut power to more than 500,000, energy ministry says May 22, 2024 03:55AM

KYIV (Reuters) - A Russian attack on energy facilities in Ukraine's Sumy region overnight severed power to more than 500,000 consumers, the energy ministry said on Wednesday.

Ukraine's air force shot down seven drones used in the attack, according to the regional authorities. The power supply has been restored for most consumers as of Wednesday morning, the ministry said.

Stellantis CEO: 'very tough' battle ahead against Chinese rivals May 22, 2024 03:53AM

MUNICH (Reuters) - Stellantis expects a major battle with Chinese rivals in the European market for electric vehicles and expects significant social consequences as a result, the group's Chief Executive Carlos Tavares said on Wednesday.

"We are not talking about a Darwinian period, we are in it," Tavares said at the Reuters Events Automotive Europe conference, adding the price battle with Asian rivals would be "very tough".

DUBAI (Reuters) - The General Staff of Iran's Armed Forces on Wednesday downplayed the role played by a Turkish drone in finding the crash site of President Ebrahim Raisi's helicopter, highlighting instead the performance of its own drones.

Rakuten, eBay team up to test US market for used Japanese fashion goods May 22, 2024 03:43AM

TOKYO (Reuters) - Japan's Rakuten Group is partnering with eBay to test U.S. demand for used Japanese fashion goods, made all the cheaper with the yen trading near a 34-year low.

The tie-up, which started on May 8 with just seven vendors on Rakuten's second-hand goods unit Rakuma, aims to capitalise on the currency effect and also a move toward bargain hunting as cost-of-living pressures around the world crimp spending.

BHP-Anglo prospects flag more M&A ahead for miners May 22, 2024 03:42AM

PERTH (Reuters) - BHP's bid for Anglo American underlines the growing appetite for energy transition metals like copper from miners who must become more aggressive to secure new projects or risk missing out, investors and mining CEOs said on Wednesday.

The bid by the world's biggest listed miner for Anglo is expected to whet appetite for more deals in the sector whether it goes ahead or not, they said.
