SINGAPORE (Reuters) -The brother of former Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong has been ordered by a court to pay S$400,000 ($296,000) to two government ministers in a defamation suit, according to a written judgment published on Friday.
Lee Hsien Yang, the estranged younger brother of the former prime minister, made defamatory allegations against the two ministers "of the gravest kind", wrote Justice Goh Yihan.

(Reuters) -British fund manager abrdn said on Friday CEO Stephen Bird will step down after four years in the role, and finance chief Jason Windsor will take the helm on an interim basis.
Following a significant strategic repositioning of the company, the board and Bird agreed that it is time for the executive "to hand over the reins to the team he has assembled over the last four years to drive the business forward," abrdn said in a statement.
... (continue reading...)(Reuters) - British retail sales slid in April by more than any economist predicted, as wet weather kept shoppers away from clothing retailers and sports stores, the Office for National Statistics said on Friday.
Sales volumes dropped by 2.3% in April alone after a 0.2% fall in March, which was downwardly revised from a flat reading.
A Reuters poll of economists had pointed to a drop of around 0.4% on the month.
