Texas city to pay $2 million to families of school shooting victims May 22, 2024 01:45PM

(Reuters) -The city of Uvalde, Texas, has reached a $2 million settlement with most of the families of the children killed in a 2022 mass shooting at an elementary school, a lawyer for the families said at a news conference on Wednesday.

"The city of Uvalde has agreed to pay its insurance of $2 million, which is all that there was," Josh Koskoff said in announcing the agreement.

Company drops plan to auction Graceland after judge blocks sale amid fraud claims May 22, 2024 01:12PM

(Reuters) - The company that had intended to auction off Graceland, singer Elvis Presley's iconic mansion in Memphis, abandoned its plan on Wednesday after a Tennessee judge blocked the sale following allegations of fraud.

Ecuador investigates eight reported extrajudicial killings during state of emergency May 22, 2024 01:07PM

QUITO (Reuters) - Ecuador's attorney general's office is investigating eight extrajudicial killings reported to have taken place during the country's most recent state of emergency, after rights groups warned authorities were not taking steps to prevent abuses.
