LONDON (Reuters) - The pound was headed for its fifth weekly gain against the euro on Thursday, having hit its highest in almost two years against the single European currency, which was rattled by political uncertainty in France.

Vessel reports missile impacting it 129 NM east of Yemen's Aden, Ambrey says Jun 13, 2024 07:20AM

DUBAI (Reuters) -A merchant vessel issued a distress call reporting a missile impacting the vessel approximately 129 nautical miles east of Yemen's Aden while on route from Malaysia to Italy's Venice, British maritime security firm Ambrey said on Thursday.

Ambrey said it assessed the vessel to be aligned with "the Houthi target profile."

The U.S. Navy’s 5th fleet did not immediately respond to a request for confirmation.

Pope Francis to meet Biden, Zelenskiy, Macron, Modi at G7 summit Jun 13, 2024 07:19AM

VATICAN CITY (Reuters) - Pope Francis will meet with the leaders of the United States, Ukraine, France and India on the sidelines of the Group of 7 (G7) summit in Italy's Borgo Egnazia, the Vatican said on Thursday.

Francis, who in January warned against the "perverse" dangers of artificial intelligence, is due to take part in leaders' talks on the new technology on Friday.

He is the first pope to take part in G7 discussions.

UK's Labour vows overhaul of parliament upper chamber if it wins power Jun 13, 2024 07:17AM

MANCHESTER, England (Reuters) - Britain's opposition Labour Party, which is currently way ahead in opinion polls before an election next month, said it would reform parliament's upper chamber to remove the right of hereditary peers to sit in the House of Lords.

The grand, centuries-old ornate red and gold chamber in the Palace of Westminster currently has about 800 members, whose places are obtained by arcane rules.
