Intercontinental Exchange to pay $10 million penalty over cyber intrusion case, SEC says May 22, 2024 09:20AM

(Reuters) - Intercontinental Exchange Inc (ICE) will pay a $10 million penalty to settle charges its subsidiaries failed to immediately alert the Securities and Exchange Commission of a cyber intrusion incident, the SEC said on Wednesday.

In a statement, the SEC said that in April 2021, ICE discovered someone had installed a malicious code into a VPN device used to remotely access the corporate network.

Czech constitutional court says Indian suspect can be extradited to US May 22, 2024 09:18AM

PRAGUE (Reuters) - The Czech Constitutional Court rejected on Wednesday a petition by an Indian man trying to avoid extradition to the United States, which suspects him of involvement in an unsuccessful plot to kill a Sikh separatist on American soil.

A final decision on whether to extradite Nikhil Gupta will be made by Justice Minister Pavel Blazek.

UN food agency looks for $400 million to feed millions in southern Africa May 22, 2024 09:11AM

HARARE (Reuters) - The U.N. World Food Programme (WFP) needs $400 million to feed millions of people in Southern Africa following a drought that plunged parts of the region into hunger, the programme said on Wednesday.

S&P 500 to end 2024 around current levels after strong run: Reuters poll May 22, 2024 09:06AM

NEW YORK (Reuters) - The Standard & Poor's 500 will end the year near current levels, but strong stock market gains so far in 2024 have some strategists saying the index is at risk of a correction in coming months, according to a Reuters poll released Wednesday.

Police investigating suspicious substance near US Capitol May 22, 2024 09:04AM

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. Capitol Police were investigating a suspicious substance Wednesday on a street near the Capitol and where the Republican National Committee headquarters are located, the police said in a statement.

The authorities have closed off First Street SE between C and D streets and directed staff and other personnel to avoid the area, Capitol police said in a statement.
