(Reuters) -Macy's posted a bigger-than-expected drop in first-quarter sales on Tuesday, hobbled by stiff competition from off-price retailers for shoppers increasingly cautious about spending on products such as apparel and footwear.
The upscale department store operator's net sales fell 2.7% to $4.85 billion. Analysts on average had expected sales to drop 2.42% to $4.86 billion, according to LSEG data.

NEW YORK(Reuters) - Nestle will market a new, $5 line of frozen pizzas and protein-enriched pastas in the United States which it says it designed specifically for people taking drugs such as Wegovy or Ozempic for weight loss.

ANTWERP, Belgium (Reuters) - The European chip industry should focus on bolstering its strengths as a research centre and crucial chipmaking equipment producer rather than trying to create a cutting edge chip manufacturer, the CEO of semiconductor research firm imec said.

BERLIN (Reuters) - Crimes motivated by right-wing ideology rose by nearly a quarter in Germany last year, statistics released by the Interior Ministry showed on Tuesday.
A total of 28,945 such crimes were recorded in the country last year, a rise of 23.21% compared to 2022, the data showed. The figure comprises mainly propaganda offences, damage to property, insults, incitement to hatred, coercion or threats and violations of assembly rules.

NEW DELHI (Reuters) - As India's northwest braces for more heatwave days this summer, capital Delhi has ordered the closure of all schools as temperatures surge as high as 47 degrees Celsius ahead of voting in the final two phases of national elections.
The India Meteorological Department said a confluence of weather patterns was driving up temperatures in the breadbasket region.
