VANCE, Alabama (Reuters) - The outcome of a vote on Friday by workers at a Mercedes-Benz factory in Alabama will be a key referendum on whether the United Auto Workers can maintain momentum in the historically anti-union South.

Mongolian climber dies in season’s first Everest fatality May 17, 2024 04:40AM

KATHMANDU (Reuters) - Sherpas recovered the body of a Mongolian climber from Mount Everest and were looking for another mountaineer missing since the weekend, officials said on Friday. It marked the first confirmed death on Everest of the current climbing season.

Daimler Truck and Volvo intend to form software joint venture May 17, 2024 04:36AM

(Reuters) - German truck maker Daimler Truck and Sweden's Volvo intend to form a joint venture to develop a software-defined vehicle platform and dedicated truck operating system, the two companies said on Friday.

The new company would be a 50/50 joint venture, with the deal expected to close by the first quarter of 2025, according to a preliminary non-binding agreement.

Israel tells World Court South Africa case makes a mockery of genocide May 17, 2024 04:34AM

THE HAGUE (Reuters) - Israel on Friday defended the military necessity of its Gaza offensive at the International Court of Justice after South Africa asked judges to order it to halt operations in Rafah and completely withdraw from the Palestinian territory.

Israeli Justice Ministry official Gilad Noam called South Africa's case, which accuses Israel of violating the Genocide Convention, "completely divorced from facts and circumstances".
