Russian forces take control of Andriivka near Bakhmut, defence ministry says May 23, 2024 11:19AM

MOSCOW (Reuters) - Russia's Defence Ministry said on Thursday that its forces had taken control of the village of Andriivka, southwest of Bakhmut in Ukraine's eastern Donetsk region.

The Ukrainian General Staff said later that its troops were repelling three Russian assaults in the area of Andriivka and Novyi.

UK police charge man with national security offences linked to Russia May 23, 2024 11:10AM

LONDON (Reuters) - British police said they had charged a 64-year-old man on Thursday with suspected offences under the National Security Act (NSA) following a counter-terrorism investigation, adding that the charge related to Russia.

Howard Michael Phillips from Harlow, a town to the north of the British capital, was arrested in central London earlier this month, police said in a statement.

Hamas says it is holding Israeli colonel reported killed on Oct. 7 May 23, 2024 10:55AM

CAIRO (Reuters) - Hamas said on Thursday it was holding an Israeli colonel captured on Oct. 7, who Israel had previously reported was killed in the attacks that day.

The Hamas armed wing Al Qassem Brigades said Colonel Asaf Hamami had been wounded during his capture. It supplied no proof, and did not specify whether he was still alive now.
