WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. congressional Republicans would aim to pass a slew of tax, border and economic policies through a legislative maneuver that would bypass Democratic objections, if they sweep the Nov. 5 elections, the No. 2 Republican in the House of Representatives said on Wednesday.

German defence minister not ready to compromise on 2025 budget demand May 22, 2024 11:03AM

PABRADE TRAINING GROUND, LITHUANIA, (Reuters) - German Defence Minister Boris Pistorius said on Wednesday he was not prepared to lower his demands for the 2025 defence budget or accept a compromise right now.

Speaking during a visit to Pabrade training ground in Lithuania, he told reporters he would neither disclose his negotiating strategy in talks with the finance minister nor send any signal whether he saw room for compromise.

(Reuters) - The U.S. securities regulator on Wednesday urged U.S. lawmakers not to adopt a bill that aims to create a new legal framework for digital currencies, saying it would undermine existing legal precedent and put capital markets at "immeasurable risk."

Islamic State claims attack on vehicle in Iraq which killed soldier May 22, 2024 10:50AM

BAGHDAD (Reuters) - One Iraqi soldier was killed and two were wounded after an explosive device detonated on their vehicle in an area between the Diyala and Salahuddin governorates in eastern Iraq on Wednesday, two security sources said.

The Islamic State group claimed responsibility for the attack in a statement on its Telegram channel later on Wednesday.
