VIENNA, Feb 9 (Reuters) - Europe ⁠must prepare to play ⁠a greater role ‍in global finance given the dollar's retreat and needs to strengthen its financial architecture for the euro to take on a larger market share, European Central Bank policymaker Martin Kocher said.

Survivors dispute Greek coastguard account of fatal migrant shipwreck Feb 9, 2026 05:05AM

ATHENS, Feb 9 (Reuters) - Survivors of ⁠a shipwreck that ⁠killed ‍15 Afghan migrants off Greece last week said that the dinghy they were in did not change course or ram a coastguard vessel, contradicting ‍the official account by authorities.

Fifteen people died in the shipwreck off ​the island of Chios on February 3. Two dozen others, including 11 minors, were rescued, some of ​them seriously injured, the coastguard said.

Next Thai government expected to take office in April, official says Feb 9, 2026 04:57AM

BANGKOK, ⁠Feb ⁠9 (Reuters) - ‍Thailand's next ‍government will likely ​take office ​by the end of April following the ​Bhumjaithai Party's election ​victory, a government ‌official said on Monday. 

"There won't ​be ⁠a honeymoon period," said ‌government spokesperson Siripong ‌Angkasakulkiat, a Bhumjaithai ‌member who won a house ‍seat in Sunday's election.

War crimes prosecutors seek 45 years' prison for Kosovo ex-president Feb 9, 2026 04:52AM

THE HAGUE, Feb 9 (Reuters) - International ⁠war crimes ⁠prosecutors said ‍on Monday Kosovo's former president Hashim Thaci controlled ethnic Albanian guerrillas and should be convicted of war crimes and sentenced to ‍45 years in prison.
