MEXICO CITY (Reuters) - The Mexican resident identified with contracting A(H5N2) bird flu in Mexico died due to chronic diseases and not the virus, Mexico's health ministry said in a statement on Friday.
Earlier this week, the World Health Organization said it had confirmed the first laboratory-confirmed human case of infection with A(H5N2) avian influenza in Mexico.

(Reuters) - Spirit Airlines' CEO said the carrier is not considering a Chapter 11 bankruptcy and is "encouraged" by the plan it has in place after its deal with JetBlue Airways (NASDAQ: JBLU) fell through, CNBC reported on Friday, citing remarks from an annual shareholder meeting.
Shares of the ultra-low-cost carrier were down about 1.2% in morning trade amid a decline in broader markets.

BRUSSELS/KYIV (Reuters) - Ukraine and Moldova meet all the criteria needed to formally start negotiations on EU membership, the European Commission said on Friday, as Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal expressed hope that the talks could start later this month.
