American Airlines faces strike threat as union negotiations stall Jun 1, 2024 01:40AM

(Reuters) - A union representing flight attendants for American Airlines Group Inc on Friday asked workers to prepare for strike action after contract negotiations with the carrier failed to produce an agreement.

"We remain apart on the key economics of the deal plus the company's completely unacceptable demand for scheduling concessions," the Association of Professional Flight Attendants (APFA) said in a statement.

South Africa latest vote count puts ANC just over 40% Jun 1, 2024 12:55AM

JOHANNESBURG(Reuters) - The vote share of South Africa's governing African National Congress (ANC) after this week's parliamentary election slipped further to just over 40% with results in from almost all polling stations, the electoral commission's website showed on Saturday.

With results from 97% of voting centres, the ANC stood at 40.14%, a precipitous drop from the 57.5% it secured in the last national election in 2019.

Olympics-McLaughlin-Levrone sets world lead on return to 400m hurdles Jun 1, 2024 12:47AM

(Reuters) - Olympic champion Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone ramped up preparations for a title defence at this year's Paris Games by running a world-leading time of 52.70 seconds on Friday in her first 400 metres hurdles race in over a year.

McLaughlin-Levrone, the world record holder in the 400 hurdles, last competed in the event in August 2022.

Microsoft to pay off cloud industry group to end EU antitrust complaint, Politico reports May 31, 2024 11:43PM

(Reuters) -Microsoft is close to reaching a multimillion-euro deal with an Amazon-backed cloud lobby to get it to drop an antitrust complaint with the European Commission, Politico reported on Saturday.

The deal, which hasn't been accepted yet by members of the lobby group Cloud Infrastructure Services Providers in Europe (CISPE), would see the providers withdraw an investigation request over Microsoft's cloud-licensing agreements, the report said, citing... (continue reading...)


Mexican candidate assassinations hit grim record ahead of Sunday's election May 31, 2024 11:41PM

MEXICO CITY (Reuters) - Mexico's election is now the bloodiest in its modern history after a candidate running for local office in central Puebla state was murdered on Friday at a political rally, taking the number of assassinated candidates to 37 ahead of Sunday's vote.
