WASHINGTON (Reuters) - A group representing major U.S. airlines forecast record summer travel with carriers expected to transport 271 million passengers, up 6.3%.

Airlines for America said Tuesday that U.S. carriers plan to fly more than 26,000 daily flights this summer, up nearly 1,400 over 2023, or 5.6%, when they carried 255 million passengers. The summer travel season forecast is for June 1 to Aug. 31.

(Reuters) - A Russian air attack on Kharkiv city centre in Ukraine hit a high-rise residential building, injuring at least 15 people, including two children, local officials said on Tuesday.

It was not immediately clear what kind of weapon was used in the strike, but it landed on the 10th floor of the 12-storey apartment block, officials said on Telegram.

Ihor Terekhov, the city's major, said rescuers were searching for the injured.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The U.S. Treasury on Tuesday put sanctions on a Russian citizen and three Russia-based companies it said were trying to evade U.S. sanctions in a scheme that could have unfrozen more than $1.5 billion belonging to Russian metals tycoon Oleg Deripaska.

Deripaska, who himself was placed under U.S. sanctions in April 2018, branched out into metals trading as the Soviet Union crumbled, making a fortune by buying up stakes in aluminum... (continue reading...)

JOHANNESBURG (Reuters) - The death toll from a building collapse in the South African city of George last week edged up to 33 on Tuesday, as rescuers continued to comb through the rubble with 19 people still unaccounted for more than a week after the incident.

Municipal officials said in a statement that only six of those who had been killed on the construction site had been identified so far, as authorities were struggling to get accurate names.
