NEW YORK CITY (Reuters) - A high-pressure weather system could bring record-breaking temperatures to central and eastern parts of the United States this week, National Weather Service forecasters said on Monday, threatening a large swath of the country with multi-day excessive heat.

MEXICO CITY (Reuters) - Polls commissioned by Mexico's ruling MORENA party showed support for a proposed reform of the country's judiciary, including support for the popular election of Supreme Court judges, President-elect Claudia Sheinbaum said on Monday.

(Reuters) - Southern Company CEO Chris Womack expects more industry commitments to build large lightwater nuclear reactors in the United States before 2030, the executive said at a nuclear power conference on Monday.
"The announcements will be before the end of this decade," Womack said at the American Nuclear Society conference in Las Vegas.

(Reuters) - The U.S. state of Kansas on Monday sued Pfizer, accusing the company of misleading the public about its COVID-19 vaccine by hiding risks while making false claims about its effectiveness.
In a lawsuit filed in the District Court of Thomas County, the state said the New York-based drugmaker's alleged false statements violated the Kansas Consumer Protection Act. It is seeking unspecified money damages.
