Facebook's (Nasdaq: FB) WhatsApp messaging unit has topped the 700 million monthly active users (MAUs) milestone.
The number is up from 500 million reported last April and 600 million reached last August.
WhatsApp CEO Jan Koum said that there are 30 billion messages being sent per day, according to a recent Facebook post.
Numbers compare with 284 MAUs for Twitter (NYSE: TWTR) and 300 million for Facebook's Instagram, CNET noted on Tuesday night.
It wasn't made clear what percentage of WhatsApp users are paying subs or whether the company has met Facebook's growth projections.
Shares of Facebook are positive in early trading.
