We're a People Person, Darnit! - Microsoft (MSFT)

February 1, 2012 1:28 PM EST
Today is February 1st, or, in Microsoft (Nasdaq: MSFT) terms, another great day to slam Google (Nasdaq: GOOG).

Microsoft's Corporate Communications VP Frank Shaw typed out a blog entry for Microsoft's Official Blog highlighting how Google's new privacy changes can be "confusing" and "complicated," -- changes which will ultimately be "unpopular" with many.

Google's new policy aims to track users across all of its services: YouTube, Google Regular, and Google+, amongst others. For a basic user who enjoys privacy, it's a pain to adjust each setting for each program Google spews (free million dollar idea - someone come up with an app for this, either desktop or mobile friendly. Make the app monitor privacy settings to see if they're in-line with what we expect and/or have chosen).

Many blogs have actually pointed to Microsoft's Bing as the best alternative to Google (sorry, Yahoo! (Nasdaq: YHOO)!). And many sites suggest alternatives to Gmail.

Shaw commented: "The changes Google announced make it harder, not easier, for people to stay in control of their own information. We take a different approach – we work to keep you safe and secure online, to give you control over your data, and to offer you the choice of saving your information on your hard drive, in the cloud, or on both." Or not save it at all, Frank.

He listed alternatives like the aforementioned Bing, Hotmail, and Office365. Not only that, but Microsoft will be running ads in major newspapers this week to remind folks Microsoft's still out there. And the company loves you.

Microsoft is, after all, made up of people people.

Microsoft shares are up about 1.7 percent Wednesday.
