Here's Why Wal-mart (WMT) Put the Kibosh on Kindle...

September 20, 2012 1:50 PM EDT
What's the reason that Wal-mart (NYSE: WMT) is cutting back on sales of Amazon's (Nasdaq: AMZN) Kindle reader? The answer might be more obvious than originally thought and it has nothing to do with Wal-mart making its own reader.

Back in May, after Target (NYSE: TGT) stopped selling the Kindle it was noted that the retailer was testing out Apple (Nasdaq: AAPL) displays and a similar event was happening with Wal-mart.

Although you can buy an Apple iPad at walmart.com, for instance, store presence has been limited. That may change as Wal-mart looks to focus in more on the winning product.

It makes sense for Apple, too. Many already know what an Apple iPad, iPhone, and iPod are, so associates don't need to go out of their way to learn intricate details or be able to run product demos like at a dedicated Apple store.

With Wal-mart stopping sales of Kindle products, the door is now wide open for Apple to step through. Shares of Apple and Amazon are notably lower, while Wal-mart is higher on the session.
