Google (GOOG) Will Add 'Buy' Button to Search Results (AMZN) (EBAY)

May 28, 2015 11:26 AM EDT

Google (Nasdaq: GOOG)(Nasdaq: GOOGL) will be looking to capture a little more of the e-commerce market soon.

According to the BBC, Google chief business officer, Omid Kordestani, said that company would be adding a "buy" button to search results in the near future.

Kordestani was speaking at the Code Conference when he issued the commentary.

Adding a buy button to results would make it easier for consumers to purchase goods featured on shopping ads that appear alongside results.

Kordestani noted that one in 10 purchases is still made offline.

It's not clear whether the move would benefit or harm Amazon.com (Nasdaq: AMZN), eBay (Nasdaq: EBAY), and other e-commerce names. Running (no pun intended) a quick search for ASICS and clicking on the "Shopping" button above results gives shoppers links to Zapps (owned by Amazon), Journeys, AsicsAmerica.com, and more.

Shares of Google are modestly lower Thursday.
