Facebook (Nasdaq: FB) Messenger said to have over 900 million monthly active users, according to CNBC.

UPDATE - Facebook's head of Messenger, David Marcus, posted the following to his Facebook page today:

  • We have quite a few exciting new things to share today!
    • Messenger now has over 900 million monthly active users;
    • We’re starting to roll out Messenger Codes, Usernames, and Links (with the amazing m.me/[yourusername] URL) available to people and businesses, making it easier than ever to connect;
    • There are now over 1 billion messages sent every month between people on Messenger and Businesses/Pages.
  • Thanks to all of you, who use our beloved product to connect every day with the people and increasingly with the businesses and services that matter the most to you.
  • As always, please try our new features, and let us know how we can make them even better for you!

Notably, Facebook last reported 800 million users for Messenger in January, which is a milestone it took around six months to reach.

Business Insider noticed today that Facebook's Messenger Codes appear to resemble a feature offered by Snapchat. Users can scan a code from another user's device and get their phone number and info added as a contact.

Shares of Facebook are flat Thursday after having traded higher at the start.
