With the unveiling of a new iPhone seemingly around the corner (see: Apple May Be Planning New Product Launch This Thursday - BGR or Big Cuts Seen In Apple's iPhone Prodution and iPad Numbers Appear At Risk), investors and fans have been clamoring to find out if the next Apple (Nasdaq: AAPL) smartphone will include near-field communication capabilities.

Well, according to Boy Genius Report, that speculation can now be laid to rest.

BGR points out that point-of-service devices like iPod touch-based wireless payment terminals were recently down for one day to perform "maintenance." Additionally, multiple stores have had "overnight stays" in order to have employees "assist in installing TBD devices." Lastly, new tables which contain different wiring not typical to Apple's in-store tables have been installed in retail locations.

The news could be a boon for such companies as NXP Semi (Nasdaq: NXPI), STMicro (NYSE: STM), and even Texas Instruments (NYSE: TXN) if the NFC devices become more widely installed in upcoming Apple devices. Currently, devices such as Google's (Nasdaq: GOOG) Nexus S, Research In Motion's (Nasdaq: RIMM) BlackBerry Bold, and several Nokia (NYSE: NOK) devices incorporate NFC.
