Apple (AAPL) is Curbing iPad Usage with Larger-Sized iPhone 6/6+ Smartphones

November 26, 2014 3:09 PM EST

Apple (Nasdaq: AAPL) appears to be cannibalizing itself, at least in terms of potential iPad sales.

The latest data set from GetPocket.com shows that iPhone 6/6+ users are utilizing their new smartphones versus an iPad tablet. The site first looked at how iPhone 5/5S users spent their time reading, with 55 percent of content being consumed on an iPhone versus an iPad.

With Google (Nasdaq: GOOG) Android users, given the larger size of the screens on many devices, about 80 percent of reading was done on a smartphone versus a tablet.

Looking to the iPhone 6, about 72 percent of users view content on the device versus a tablet and number moves to 80 percent for the iPhone 6+ crowd.

GetPocket.com says it draws data from millions of daily page views and, while this is only one source, the shift is pretty dramatic. Investors will need to wait a few months to determine whether or not iPad sales will suffer as a result.

Then again, Apple might forge ahead with an even larger iPad aimed at the enterprise segment.

Shares of Apple are up 0.8 percent.
