New Instagram Direct (FB) Feature May Keep Users Away from Snapchat - GWI

Facebook's (Nasdaq: FB) Instagram has offered Instagram Direct since late 2013, but a recent update might make the app a rival to the likes of Snapchat, Facebook Messenger, and WhatsApp.

According to GlobalWebIndex, the new in-app chat feature has been highlighted with the latest Instagram Direct update. Currently, a good portion of Instagram users also utilize other chat features; over half use Facebook Messenger and 47 percent are on WhatsApp.

But, Instagram users are over three-times more likely to use Snapchat, which means the new chat feature could prove to be very sticky for the Facebook unit.
