Some bits and pieces from Research In Motion's (Nasdaq: RIMM) latest quarterly filing:

* BlackBerry shipments fell about 51.1 percent to 6.9 million units from last quarter. RIM shipped 7.4 million units in the last quarter.

* Subs rose over 5 percent to 79 million, though the number is down about 1 million from Q213.

* Notably, Playbook tablet shipments nearly doubled from the last quarter to 255,000 units.

* RIM expects to report a loss in the fourth quarter as it ramps marketing spend into the BlackBerry 10 (BB10) launch.

* The company also expects a drop in unit sales as some customers put off getting a BlackBerry 7-equipped device so close to the BB10 launch. The consensus agrees, with the Street currently modeling a loss of 26 cents per share.
