May U.S. Data Recap

June 13, 2012 10:01 AM EDT Send to a Friend
Today US advance retail sales for May was reported lower by 0.2 percent, which was in-line with expectations.

The retail data is another downer in a mostly negative month. For May, personal income, hourly earnings, and payrolls all came in below expectations. Durable goods, like retails sales, were reported in-line.

The only real bright spot in May was in consumer confidence, which was higher than expected. PPI also came in lower, but the more important CPI isn't due out until Thursday.

On tap later this month we get industrial production, housing starts, and building permits. On Friday, we start to get June data starting with Uof M consumer confidence, which is expected to show a decline.
