A report out today paints a bleak picture for workers in the computer industry in the U.S., who will face planned layoffs of 27,754.
Job cuts in the computer industry were lead by Hewlett-Packard (NYSE :HPQ), who announced 27,000 of the 27,754 cuts in this sector, but if trends continue others employers could join them, according to analysts.
"We may see more job cuts from the computer sector in the months ahead," said John A. Challenger, CEO of Challenger, Gray & Christmas, as the rapidly changing trends and consumer tastes shuffling workers to new projects or cause them to be laid-off altogether.
The second largest industry to announce job cuts was the transportation industry, with 5419.
In total the nation's employers announced planned layoffs totaling 61,887, a spike of 53 percent since last month.
