Samsung, Sony (SNE) Presentations at IFA 2013 Key for Tech Segment (AAPL) (MSFT)

September 4, 2013 8:55 AM EDT
Shares of Apple (Nasdaq: AAPL), Google (Nasdaq: GOOG), Microsoft (Nasdaq: MSFT), and BlackBerry (Nasdaq: BBRY) are on traders' radars today as consumer electronics giant Samsung will take most of the attention away from its rivals.

At 1pm ET, Samsung will be making a presentation -- 'Samsung Unpacked' -- at IFA 2013 in Europe. Many expect that a new smartwatch and Galaxy Note might be unveiled at the event.

The smartwatch, which Samsung may call 'Galaxy Gear', is key for most tech companies. Apple is said to be working on one and a slew of smaller upstart companies have also looked to enter the market. Most companies think that a wearable device will be the next wave of hot electronics items, much like how smartphones dominated the landscape over the last several years.

Sony (NYSE: SNE) will also be at IFA 2013 today, making a presentation at 10am ET which may include a new flagship device and new lens-equipped camera line. The next smartphone from Sony might be called the Xperia Z1, a successor to the Xperia Z and a device which will focus on camera technology. Cameras have become a focal point for smartphone makers, as can be seen in the Samsung Galaxy S4 Zoom and Nokia (NYSE: NOK) Lumia 1020.
