Maybe most of its sales are online?
Slate published a noteworthy blog post Monday which quickly became the most-searched thing on Google for the day. It showed why Steve Ballmer is (probably) stepping down as Microsoft's CEO.
The first photo on the post shows an empty Microsoft Store at Fashion Centre at Pentagon City in Arlington, VA, at noon on Sunday, December 8, 2013. The author then posts a photo taken of an Apple (Nasdaq: AAPL) Store at around the same time, with the store being (no surprise here) jam packed.
This is during one of the busiest retailing periods of the year and on a weekend day, mind you.
While there's no way to tell whether the author's claims of timing and location are true, news of empty Microsoft Stores isn't exactly new. It's just startling after the first ones were opened quite a while ago.
Shares of Microsoft are up 0.8 percent.
