Facebook (FB) Exec Sees Microsoft (MSFT) Windows Rebounding, Growing Share

February 18, 2014 11:40 AM EST
Is the death of Microsoft (Nasdaq: MSFT) Windows greatly exaggerated?

Speaking with VentureBeat recently for an interview, Facebook (Nasdaq: FB) engineering director Jocelyn Goldfein made the following comment:

Wearables are going to come along, and you’re going to want to see Facebook on those. I actually think Windows isn’t down for the count; I think we’ll see Microsoft growing in share.

So, while Microsoft is rolling out updates left-and-right for its Windows 8.1 platform, at least one key executive sees recent sales setbacks as nothing more than a speed bump.

Goldfein also commented on Facebook Home, saying the company was far from being done with the program. She said part of the disappointment might have been all the focus on its initial launch. I think it takes time, when you’re building something genuinely new and disruptive … it takes time to get it right. I think we did a really good job with the polish, which is part of why I think it got such almost fawning coverage at the outset. But I don’t know that we made it valuable to users from the outset, the executive commented.

Shares of Microsoft are up 0.5 percent Tuesday.
