Amazon (AMZN) Shuns Netflix (NFLX) with Original Content Scheduling Plans

Is Netflix (Nasdaq: NFLX) original content model of releasing all episodes at once a bad move?

Amazon.com (Nasdaq: AMZN) thinks so. According to The Atlantic, Amazon will go with a more structured format to the release of its original content programming via an "appointment" schedule.

It's not clear whether the method will work better or not. Regular TV survived for generations on extending a 20 minute program into half-an-hour shows interspersed with commercial breaks. The advancement of technology, as well as introduction of platforms like Hulu and YouTube, has meant that consumers have many more choices when it comes to what to watch. Don't want to view commercials ahead of a show/video? Navigate away from the page.

But, Netflix found success with the likes of "House of Cards," all episodes released at once. Last month, "Arrested Development" returned via Netflix. Given that "House of Cards" was a new series entirely and "Arrested Development" had a massive fan base, maybe Netflix could have found more success in releasing the latter on a weekly basis?
