B B & T Takeover My bank, Coastal Federal, was swallowed up by B B & T in 2007, and the damage they caused to my finances have yet to be resolved. My Coastal Federal balance was ~$1,000. The next day, my new B B & T balance was $(-)1,000. I went to my new bank for an explanation, which they could not provide. About a week later, they notified me that there was an error that occurred with my balance due the hectic changeover, and my balance was credited with the missing funds. So for one week, I had no money, not a dime. Out of necessity, I sold some collector's items worth ~ $1,500.00 so I could feed my family, put gas in my car, etc. I received a grand total of $80.00. B B & T's compensation for my losses: "We're sorry for the inconvenience." A broken ATM is an inconvenience, a $1,000 negative balance is a disaster! But I was told I was one of the lucky ones: "some other Coastal Federal transferees had lost their entire direct deposit paychecks, and they may never be found." About three weeks later, I went in to cash a check from Edward Jones Investments, based out of Missouri. I was told there would be a three week hold on the check since it was out-of-state. There is probably not a town in The USA with a population of 10,000 that does not have an Edward Jones branch. As I told the banker before walking out the door forever: "if an Edward Jones check bounces, we're all in serious trouble. (this was 2007!) Coastal Federal cashed my checks within 24 hours. For reasons of which I haven't a clue, B B & T put my name on a bank black list, leaving me the sole option of cashing my checks at a check cashing service. They are expensive: 3-5%, but they cash my check on the spot, with a smile, the way you would expect a professional to act. I'm still putting some money aside for the day I can afford a lawyer to file a lawsuit against B B & T for all the problems they have caused me. Hit your branch at 9 AM folks, and get your cash out before B B & T loses track of it. These clowns can not balance a checkbook.

Bought shares at .97 Okay, so I am a risk taker. I just bought some shares of CNB at .97 per share. The worst thing that can happen is that i lose $1,000, compared to gaining thousands if this bank does survive and goes up to say $7 or $8 a share. Better than going to Las Vegas.
