Morning Movers 10/17: (ANDS) (EP) (BEXP) (SNDA) Higher; (CLWR) (EPB) (RBCN) Lower

Anadys Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (NASDAQ: ANDS) 251% HIGHER; entered into a definitive merger agreement to be acquired by Roche (OTC: RHHBY) for $3.70 per share in cash.

El Paso Corporation (NYSE: EP) 23.1% HIGHER; Kinder Morgan, Inc. (NYSE: KMI) and El Paso entered a definitive agreement whereby KMI will acquire all of the outstanding shares of EP in a transaction that will create the largest midstream and the fourth largest energy company in North America with an enterprise value of approximately $94 billion and 80,000 miles of pipelines. The total purchase price, including the assumption of debt outstanding at El Paso Corporation and including the debt outstanding at El Paso Pipeline Partners, L.P. (NYSE: EPB) is approximately $38 billion.

Brigham Exploration Company (Nasdaq: BEXP) 19.9% HIGHER; Statoil ASA (NYSE: STO) and Brigham announced today that they have entered into a merger agreement for Statoil to acquire all of the outstanding shares of Brigham for $36.50 per share through an all-cash tender offer.

Shanda Interactive (Nasdaq: SNDA) 17.2% HIGHER; receives $41.35/ADS offer from its Chairman, CEO and COO Tianqiao Chen.

Delta Petroleum (Nasdaq: DPTR) 16.8% HIGHER; likely trading higher amid the deal for Brigham Exploration.

Sequenom, Inc. (Nasdaq: SQNM) 11.1% HIGHER; reports its wholly-owned subsidiary, Sequenom Center for Molecular Medicine (Sequenom CMM), launched its noninvasive proprietary MaterniT21 laboratory developed test (LDT). The MaterniT21 LDT detects a genetic chromosomal anomaly known as Trisomy 21, the most common cause of Down syndrome. The test is now available to physicians upon request in 20 major metropolitan regions across the United States.

Clearwire (Nasdaq: CLWR) 10.5% LOWER; continuing to correct this week following a 27 percent rise on Thursday of last week.

El Paso Pipeline Partners (NYSE: EPB) 9.8% LOWER; downgraded at BofA and Oppenheimer this morning following news of Kinder Morgan's $38 billion deal with El Paso Corp.

Callon Petroleum (NYSE: CPE) 9.6% HIGHER; see Delta Petroleum.

Rubicon Technology (Nasdaq: RBCN) 9.6% LOWER; traders taking profits following a 12 percent move higher over the last two trading sessions. The stock is now below the 200-day moving average today.

Patriot Coal (NYSE: PCX) 9.3% LOWER; coal sector correcting today following a sharp move higher on Friday.

Gannett Co., Inc. (NYSE: GCI) 9% LOWER; reported Q3 EPS of $0.44, in-line with the analyst estimate of $0.44. Revenue for the quarter came in at $1.27 billion versus the consensus estimate of $1.27 billion.
