Notable ETF Movers of the Day 04/14: (UNG) (GLD) (IYR) Higher; (XLF) (TAN) (SMH) Lower

Gainers

  • United States Natural Gas (NYSE: UNG) up 2.17 percent to $11.08. Nat gas futures trading higher following EIA data saying stores increase 28 billion cubic feet, versus the consensus estimate of 31 - 35 bcf according to Platts. May 11 contracts are up $0.101 to $4.242 on the Comex.

  • SPDR Gold Shares (NYSE: GLD) up 0.94 percent to $143.24. The weaker U.S. dollar is keeping gold prices elevated, stemming from weaker economic data. Initial jobless came in at 412K, above the consensus, and core PPI was 0.3 percent, about 0.1 points above the consensus. Gold June 11 contracts are up $14.2 to $1,469.8 per ounce on the Comex.

  • iShares Dow Jones US Real Estate (NYSE: IYR) up 0.60 percent to $58.55. RealtyTrac reports that foreclosure activity fell 27 percent in Q1. March saw a 35 percent drop in filings compared with March 2010.

  • Financial Select Sector SPDR (NYSE: XLF) down 1.06 percent to $16.10. Financials showing some weakness today, continuing a trend which started earlier in March, as detail of the Senate's Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations two-year investigation into credit agencies is revealing some interesting details, including pressure from banks for the raters to keep ratings on MBSs.

  • Guggenheim Solar (NYSE: TAN) down 1.54 percent to $8.33. Reports have Italian Deputy Industry Minister Stefano Saglia said that Italy plans to put a six-monthly or an annual cap on solar incentive costs rather than total power output. The comments come under a new renewable energy support decree which aims to scrap incentives by 2017. The news comes as Roth Capial and Nomura both made some bullish calls on solars today.

  • Semiconductor HOLDRs (NYSE: SMH) down 0.76 percent to $33.78. Led lower by Intel (Nasdaq: INTC) today, following reports that the tech giant will switch to a new reporting structure following the acquisition of Infineon Wireless Solutions and McAfee. Intel is trading 1.8 lower at mid-day.
