Russia's government on Monday said it would not purchase Kerimov's stake in potash producer Uralkali, according to Reuters. Comments come in response to speculation Kerimov might sell his 21.75 percent stake in Uralkali to a Russian state buyer.
First Deputy Prime Minister Igor Shuvalov said there is no need for the Russian government to take on risk, adding that Russia supports reunification of the joint venture with Belarus.
"The existence of the alliance would be right for global potash market and for producers," said Shuvalov.
Investors have their eye on related potash stocks, including Potash Corp (NYSE: POT), Intrepid Potash, Inc. (NYSE: IPI), and The Mosaic Company (NYSE: MOS).
