Bidding for Kabel Deutschland Heats Up as Vodafone (VOD) Preps Larger Offer (LBTYA)

Vodafone (Nasdaq: VOD) isn't going to go away quietly as Liberty Global (Nasdaq: LBTYA) attempts to acquire top German cable operator Kabel Deutschland.

Reuters reports that Vodafone might come over the top with a $10 billion all-cash deal for Kabel. Vodafone is also confident that it will come under less regulatory scrutiny than Liberty, given that Liberty owns second-largest German cable operator Unity Media.

Vodafone's offer could come in at €85 to €86 per share, versus its initial bid at €81 to €82 per share and Liberty's recent offer of €85 per share. Vodafone was mulling a larger bid ahead of Liberty's submission, Reuters noted.

While Vodafone is looking to expand its footprint of television, fixed-line, and broadband services to a top-performing market, Liberty is looking for more consolidation of its operations.

Shares of Vodafone are flat in early trading.
