The former Apple (Nasdaq: AAPL) executive Richard Williamson, who led the company's mapping efforts, was said to be scooped up by social media giant Facebook (Nasdaq: FB). Reports have Williamson joining Facebook's mobile-software group as manager.
Following Apple's mapping debacle late last year, Williamson was part of a round of firings by Apple to shore-up its team. He had worked at the company for over a decade ahead of the dismissal, notably engineering software for Apple's iPhone.
Bloomberg notes that Williamson isn't the first Apple employee to venture over to Facebook; other executives include Greg Novick, a former iPhone manager who helped develop the device’s touch interface; Mike Matas and Kimon Tsinteris, software designers who joined when Facebook acquired their company Push Pop Press; and software engineers Scott Goodson, Tim Omernick and Chris Tremblay.
Shares of Facebook are lower in early trading Wednesday.
