Apple (AAPL) Sees One-Year Delay to New HQ Construction

Apple (Nasdaq: AAPL) will delay the grand opening of its new headquarters in Cupertino, CA, by at least one year, according to revised plans submitted to the city council recently.

Bloomberg notes Wednesday that Apple's plan to open the "flying saucer"-like building will now happen in 2016 at the earliest, as the company needs more time to complete its environmental impact report.

Though Apple planned to break ground in 2013, work might not commence until 2014 should a few more bumps in the road appear.

Apple's revised plan calls for an auditorium to be moved further away from surrounding roads and construction to take place without having to remove any dirt from the property. An additional building is also being proposed to house utility equipment and Apple would also like to add more parking spots for employees. Of the 14,200 proposed parking areas, about 10,500 will be underground, the company said.

The tree-to-parking spot ratio is estimated to be about 0.49. Apple is indicated for a higher open Wednesday.
