VIVUS, Inc. (Nasdaq: VVUS) is lower on the session following new prescription data for Qsymia in its sixth week.
Bloomberg Industries noted that prescriptions showed an "unexpected decline" for the week, falling 46 percent over the prior week. BI thinks this could be attributed to manufacturer-imposed blocking of data or some distributors not reporting.
BI noted that Source Healthcare Analytics affirmed the drop wasn't due to a change in data aggregation methodology.
Notably, growth showed some signs of slowdown last week, with Cowen taking a bearish stance on the potential for weight-loss pills, saying they were only appropriate for a niche market.
