Boeing (BA) Shares Take Flight on Wings of Strong Q3 Earnings, Outlook

Shares of Boeing (NYSE: BA) traded higher this morning following the release of positive third quarter results that were ahead of expectations. Boeing said the report reflected continued strong core performance, despite pension headwinds.

Boeing reported revenue that was a hair shy of estimates at $20 billion vs. $20.24 billion expected. This represents a 13 percent increase compared to the third quarter of 2011, when Boeing reported revenue of $17.72 billion.

At $1.35, earnings beat estimates by a solid 24 cents. Going forward, Boeing sees 2012 EPS of $4.80-4.95, above the consensus of $4.73.

"Our Defense, Space & Security business maintained double-digit margins in a challenging environment while Commercial Airplanes continued to build momentum with 787 deliveries and 737 MAX orders,” said Boeing Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer Jim McNerney. He thinks Boeing is well positioned for the long-term and plans to emphasis quality, productivity and disciplined throughout the company.

Looking ahead Boeing sees revenues for the totaling $80.5 to $82 billion, which compares favorably the the Wall Street consensus of $80.65 billion. Boeing sees EPS of $4.80-4.95 for the year, versus the consensus of $4.73

Shares of Boeing are higher by 2.5 percent early on Wednesday.
