Barrington Research initiates coverage on Opko Health (NYSE: OPK) with a Outperform. PT $6.00.
The firm cited their belief that the management team led by multi-billionaire Dr. Phillip Frost and long-term business partner Dr. Jane Hsaio "will commercialize several billion dollar product lines."
"The OPK team has successfully acquired, licensed and developed technologies that we believe will ultimately be transformative to medicine," the firm notes.
The firm notes that at 40x sales there is "considerable risk" that they characterized as "speculative." That said, "given the opportunities each of these programs have to truly transform medicine, the data each has shown to date, the platform and transformative nature of each of these programs and the very strong management team, we believe the risk/reward profile is favorable for OPK at current levels."
The most important programs near term, according to the firm, are the commercialization of OPK’s point-of-care diagnostic system and its entry into the total PSA market, its next generation PSA test (4KScore) for the central lab environment and its progress entering Phase I studies with its neuro-protective protease inhibitor (JNK). Barrington expects Opko to commercialize its diagnostic system in 2013, its 4KScore in 2013 and 2014 and begin Phase I studies for JNK in 2013.
