Amarin (AMRN) Ticks Lower as NCE Status Called into Question by Noted Biotech Watcher

September 19, 2012 12:42 PM EDT
Amarin Corp Plc (NASDAQ: AMRN) shares are volatile as biotech investor Adam Feuerstein is holding a live Q&A session today. Currently, the topic is Amarin.

Feuerstein now thinks NCE is not going to happen for the pharma. He thinks the extended delay in making a decision says that the FDA rejected NCE status and Amarin is trying to appeal the decision.

Another comment was: Any NCE benefit/help to AMRN re NCE when Lovaza comes off patent?

Feuerstein doesn't think lovaza going off of patents would affect the NCE decision.

One person asked whether NCE is that important for Amarin, with Feuerstein responding that if it wasn't, why would the pharma go into blackout until the issue is resolved? With NCE, challenge can be filed immediately which is a risk and deterrent for big pharma.

Notably, he commented that a buyout of Amarin is pure speculation.
