Shares of containerboard stocks are higher on the session today following new data pointing to better shipment numbers in August.
According to Credit Suisse, U.S. corrugated box shipments rose 0.6 percent from last year, outpacing some estimates. Inventories also dropped 115,000 tons, which the firm noted as "significant" and the largest drop since 2000.
The data is supportive of a price increase in the segment, though Credit Suisse is modeling a $30 per ton increase versus $50 per ton announced.
Traders are keeping an eye on Int'l Paper (NYSE: IP), Packaging Corp. (NYSE: PKG), and Rock-Tenn Co. (NYSE: RKT) today on the report.
