Canaccord Genuity Morning Coffee on Nordstrom (NYSE: JWN): Heading Nord.
Seattle-based retailer Nordstrom is planning to open multiple stores in Canada in partnership with Cadillac Fairview, according a report in Women’s Wear Daily. An official announcement is expected today in Toronto to discuss "store plans for Canada." There are no additional details available at this time with a spokesman for the company saying, "We’ll have more about our plans on Thursday." Last year, company president Blake Nordstrom told shareholders that the company was looking to expand internationally, specifically in Vancouver and Toronto, but that finding "the right locations is a challenge." Nordstrom currently ships to Canada for orders made on its web site and is not the first U.S. retailer to look north of the border. J. Crew moved into Canada last year and Target (NYSE: TGT) is looking to open 125 Canadian locations starting in 2013.
