UPDATE - UBS initiates coverage on HMA (NYSE: HMA) with a Buy rating. PT $11.
Analyst, A.J. Rice, said, "HMA operates 71 hospitals in 15 states across the southeast U.S. HMA focuses on non-urban markets, and 64% of revenues are derived from Florida, Mississippi and Tennessee. HMA favors Certificate of Need markets where the population is between 50,000 to 500,000, is expanding faster than the national average, and is skewed toward those over age 65."
"Since joining the company in 2008, CEO Gary Newsome has set three initiatives: a) boost Emergency Room operations; b) strengthen physician recruitment; and c) pursue market service development. HMA has also embarked on several cost savings initiatives particularly in the area of orthopaedic, spine and cardiac implants. As a result, HMA is positioned for 8-10% annual EBITDA growth."
