Notable 52-Week Highs and Lows of the Day 06/06: (ULTA) (SO) (DF) High; (TPX) (ANR) Low

This report is an intraday check of some of the more notable stocks that have hit a 52-week high or low so far today.

52-Week High:
  • Ulta Salon (Nasdaq: ULTA) high of $97.89. After the market closed Tuesday, Ulta Salon reported first-quarter EPS of 54 cents on revenue of $474.1 million, versus views calling for EPS of 53 cents and revs of $473.9 million. Comps were up 10.1 percent.

    Looking ahead, Ulta sees second-quarter 2012 EPS of 49 cents to 51 cents and revs of $466 million to $473 million. The Street was looking for EPS of 48 cents and revs of $467 million.

  • Dean Foods Co. (NYSE: DF) high of $15.92. Dean Foods has been moving higher over the last month following strong quarterly results and boosted guidance issued on May 9th. Since then, Dean Foods has only closed lower about seven out of 20 total times.

  • Southern Co. (NYSE: SO) high of $46.92. Southern Co. gaining again today, possibly with a boost from a Seeking Alpha article earlier on the session. Utilities have been in rally mode over the last few weeks, with energy becoming an hotter topic as nat gas prices rebound a bit and lagging coal demand continues pushing those prices lower. Over the last 14 sessions, Southern Co. has only found itself lower twice at the closing bell.
52-Week Low:
  • Tempur Pedic International Inc. (NYSE: TPX) low of $21.92. Tempur Pedic getting slammed Wednesday following the company lowering its 2012 outlook. Sales are now expected to be $1.43 billion with EPS of $2.70. Previously, the company saw sales of $1.60 billion to $1.65 billion and EPS of $3.80 to $3.95.

    The Street was modeling revs of $1.65 billion and EPS of $3.93 on average.

    Shares dropped nearly 50 percent on the session.

  • Alpha Natural Resources, Inc. (NYSE: ANR) low of $9.61. Coal prices lower following a weaker than expected showing at the Coaltrans conference in Bali Wednesday, where bids, offers, and trades were all tepid at best.

    Producers are worried about signals from China, which has been buying spot cargoes of coal, which are at a discount to domestic prices.

    Alpha's performance has been spotty, but data over the last month shows 13 of 22 sessions ending in red territory.
