Notable 52-Week Highs and Lows of the Day 05/22: (PPC) (DSW) (PCYC) High; (ACI) (NAK) (BTU) Low

This report is an intraday check of some of the more notable stocks that have hit a 52-week high or low so far today.

52-Week High:
  • Pilgrim's Corp. (NYSE: PPC) high of $8.15. Pilgrm's Pride bounced off of its 50-day SMA this week to a new high. The trend for Pilgrm's Pride has been fairly consistent since a low just south of $3 seen last August, with a few hiccups from the start of 2012 through February. Could be seeing some recent upside from stronger Wal-Mart (NYSE: WMT) numbers.

  • DSW Inc. (NYSE: DSW) high of $61.84. DSW moving higher following first-quarter 2012 numbers, issued ahead of the bell this morning. Earnings were 98 cents per share on revenue of $558.6 million, compared with views calling for EPS of 90 cents and revs of $548.1 million. Looking ahead, DSW boosted its 2012 outlook from $3.20 to $3.35 to a new range of $3.25 to $3.40. The Street was modeling $3.31.

  • Pharmacyclics, Inc. (Nasdaq: PCYC) high of $32.94. Pharmacyclics reported that clinical abstracts on Bruton's Tyrosine Kinase inhibitor, ibrutinib (formerly, PCI-32765) have been selected for oral presentations at the 17th Congress of the European Hematology Association (EHA), June 14-17, 2012 in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. Shares have been moving strongly over the past several session, with a close higher Tuesday amounting to the fifth out of the last six session.
52-Week Low:
  • Arch Coal Inc. (NYSE: ACI) low of $. Arch Coal and other coal miners slipping Tuesday following reports that Patriot Coal Corp. (NYSE: PCX) is discussing strategic alternatives with advisors. Arch Coal has really been on a year-long slide, shares falling from $30.29 last May to its current level.

  • Hugoton Royalty Trust (NYSE: HGT) low of $7.71. Investors might be looking at a SeekingAlpha article today highlighting some negative attributes for Hugoton. Shares slumped about 10 percent Monday as well.

  • Northern Dynasty Minerals Ltd. (AMEX: NAK) low of $2.67. Northern Dynasty getting hit following a response to the EPA's Bristol Bay Watershed Assessment project. Simply, Northern Dynasty calls the EPA dopes, saying its report its 'rushed and inadequate.' For the release, click here.

  • Peabody Energy Corp. (NYSE: BTU) low of $22.85. Peabody is also seeing some pressure from Patriot Coal speculation. Shares off about 7.2 percent to the new low Tuesday.
