VIX Signals Risk-On
The value of the VIX index is collapsing today, as traders pile back into the market after a difficult few weeks. The VIX is commonly known as the fear index and measures the implied volatility of the S&P 500. It is down 11 percent in late trading on Monday and is trading just above the 22 level.
The VIX ETF, iPath S&P 500 VIX Short-Term Futures ETN (NYSE: VXX) is also lower today - down 8.9 percent.
